Refashion Series: Rounding up 2013’s refashions.

2013 has been somewhat productive for me in terms of refashioning for my daughter. It has been more empowering for me than I imagined, even though I was dealt with a bout of the “I’m a loser for not being able to afford clothes for my children” mentality. My daughter has also received criticism from her schoolmates [really? in 2nd grade???], but her teachers, and the kids’ parents have re-encouraged her to be proud that mommy [yay!] can do such things. There is a couple of things that I didn’t get to blog about since I didn’t get a chance to take the after pictures of the refashion – it’s called running out of batteries, and faced with the option: battery or dinner money. Now that Summer has been long over, and my plan is to refashion during the season – I’m also over the withdrawal symptoms of my Korean drama addiction, that I’m just now posting back.

I present 2013’s Refashion Series – A total of 7 dresses, 2 shorts, 2 skirts, 2 tank tops, 1 romper, and 1 jacket.

Refashion Series: What To Wear During Sunday Service

Okay, I didn’t google enough before I started Refashion Friday. I hope I didn’t infringe on any copyright. I thought it would be cool if my daughter wears a refashioned piece to school on a Friday. Anyway, I’m changing that to Sundays. Instead, my daughter or me will be wearing a refashioned piece on Sunday when we go to the 5pm service.

This was the before pieces….

After…

It works for now. There is a second part to this refashion. And no…I didnt get interrupted, rather I took my babes out to see a movie then went for a swim that and I ran out of thread.

Until then,

On the next refashion series….updated 8/13/13

My guest will be going back home in the next couple of weeks. I’ve lined up what I wanted to work with for my daughter’s refashioned outfit. For now, I’ll just rip the seams, cut the patterns, then sew as soon as I get my home back. ….

Refashion Series: The Birth of Refashion Fridays

Here’s the update from the last post. I finally had an hour to spare to finish putting these together. My daughter was so excited that she gave me the tightest hug. After that, she picked the next outgrown dress, and told me what she wants made out of it!

It’s almost back to school, so I figured, I should start combing through the suitcase, and bags of clothes and make something out of it and post it on Fridays. I’m going to have my daughter wear a refashioned outfit on a Friday, granted if I made an outfit by Thursday night.

I’m calling it Refashion Fridays.

Hopefully, I can start refashioning for me too. It’s just so much more fun and easier to make something for her.

Refashion Series: Preview

Well, I did it. I am working on the re-fashion series. I wanted to start right when school was over, but better late than never. I must tell you – that like almost all of my post—-I wasn’t planning on this particular pieces to be refashioned first.
Last night, I was looking at this dress. This is from when my daughter is about 4-5 yrs old.  I didn’t even know why I saved it. It had stains all over. Today, my gut was telling me to just go for it. I found this shirt @ Walmart for $3.00, got myself a cutting board, seam ripper, and red thread. I’ve already cut the dress off, just needed to put it together.No- it won’t be done on time for the fireworks show tonight, but it’s a summer outfit none the less… I have to prepare for our picnic now. I’m posting the images as “insurance” that I follow through with this.

Until then,
